MediaTek unveils Genio Pro 5100, a 3nm powerhouse for edge AI and robotics
MediaTek has officially introduced its latest high-performance IoT processor, the MediaTek Genio Pro 5100, marking a major step forward in edge AI computing. Announced during Embedded World 2026, the new chip is designed to power advanced applications such as robotics, autonomous machines, drones, and industrial AI systems.
At the heart of the Genio Pro 5100 is a cutting-edge 3nm architecture, making it one of MediaTek’s most advanced chips to date. It features an all “big-core” CPU setup using Arm v9.2 architecture, combining a Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. This configuration is built for high-performance workloads, delivering significantly stronger compute power compared to traditional IoT processors.
A major highlight of the chip is its focus on on-device generative AI. It integrates MediaTek’s 8th-generation NPU capable of delivering over 50 TOPS of AI performance, enabling real-time AI tasks without relying heavily on cloud processing. The platform can even handle large language models with up to 7 billion parameters, pushing edge devices closer to desktop-level AI capabilities.
In terms of graphics and multimedia, the Genio Pro 5100 is equipped with an Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU and supports advanced features like 8K video encoding/decoding, up to three 4K displays, and multiple camera inputs. It can handle as many as 16 simultaneous camera streams, making it suitable for surveillance systems, machine vision, and autonomous navigation.
The chipset also emphasizes industrial-grade reliability. It supports LPDDR5X memory, high-speed interfaces like PCIe Gen4 and USB 3.2, and operates in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 105°C. MediaTek is also offering a 10-year supply commitment, signaling its focus on long-term industrial deployment rather than consumer smartphones.
Software support is equally robust, with compatibility for Linux distributions such as Ubuntu and Debian, along with the Robot Operating System (ROS), making it developer-friendly for robotics and AI projects.
MediaTek confirmed that the Genio Pro 5100 is currently in the sampling phase, with mass production expected to begin in the second half of 2026.
With the Genio Pro 5100, MediaTek is clearly positioning itself at the forefront of the growing edge AI market. By combining high-performance computing, advanced AI acceleration, and industrial-grade reliability, the company is targeting a future where intelligent machines can process data locally—faster, more securely, and with less dependence on the cloud.
